Manager of Research Computing Team

Lehigh University is seeking a Manager of its Research Computing

This position plays a primary role in providing leadership and
strategic direction for campus research and scientific computing.

Primary responsibilities include leading efforts of the Research
Computing Team, which consists of three full-time staff members;
developing and implementing a strategic plan and budget for
research computing; working with Library and Technology Services
(LTS) leadership and the Research Computing Steering Committee to
develop policies for research computing across the university;
partnering with university leadership, LTS, the Office of Research
and Sponsored Programs, and research faculty and staff in applying
for grants to support research computing activities; assisting in
the acquisition and management of resources required to support
new and continuing sponsored research programs; collaborating with
faculty and professional staff in key research areas through
system customization, performance tuning, proof-of-concept
prototyping, and parallelization; partnering with staff in the
Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning to expand available
training and enable the use of research computing resources in
teaching environments.

The position reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Library and
Technology Services.

Primary desired skills include expertise in the development,
support, parallelization, optimization, and benchmarking of open
source and commercial scientific applications and software
packages; proficiency with Fortran, C/C++, MPI, OpenMP, Matlab,
Maple, Abaqus, and other commonly used research computing
software; experience in designing, deploying, and administering
UNIX-based research computing infrastructure, preferably in an
academic environment; knowledge of queuing systems for batch job
submission; knowledge of backup and storage systems, Ethernet and
Infiniband networking, configuration management, and system
deployment; experience in management, budgeting, and collaboration
with multiple partners in an academic research environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Master’s degree in computer or information sciences,
engineering, or related field required, doctoral degree preferred.

* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

* The ability to confer and consult with faculty/staff and senior
administration officials.

* The ability to work, prioritize, and make decisions with minimal
