Conducts academic research in connection with CUNY programs; may
assist faculty, staff, and students in conducting research and
lead research efforts involving others.
- Develops research plans and proposals and participates in
acquiring funding - Collects, analyzes, and assures validity of
- Writes progress reports; writes and publishes findings
- Collaborates with internal and external colleagues
- Adheres to standards for safety and hygiene and ethical conduct
as defined by the University and relevant outside parties
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Research Associate will research, formulate, and address key
environmental analysis challenges being addressed by the newly
formed CUNY Environmental CrossRoads Initiative located on the
City College of New York campus.
The Research Associate will work closely with scientists, staff,
and IT personnel of the CUNY Environmental CrossRoads Initiative,
NOAA-CREST, the Civil Engineering, and affiliated Electrical
Engineering, Computer Science, and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences
Departments to utilize appropriate resources for the creation of
digital environmental indicators, geospatial modeling, and coding
of flow and constituent transport dynamics in simulation models.
The Research Associate will also assist affiliated faculty, staff,
and students in research related resources at Staten Island
College and will work closely with the IT staff at the High
Performance Computing facilities.
Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research
A Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research
with strong computer science skills required.
The successful candidate should be very well-versed in and be
familiar with different databases and with various GIS systems in
order to apply the developed software tools and datasets to the
Thorough and broad knowledge in area of expertise from underlying
principles to highest level of implementation and ability to
apply those skills are required.
The Research Associate should have a broad understanding of
complex problems and solutions with an ability to implement the
most advanced solutions.
Capacity for advanced use of Mac OS, Linux, and Windows platforms
The successful candidate should also have good writing and public
